Starting a Drive
How do I start tracking?
Tap the big Start button on your dashboard. Select a supervisor, then hit Go. The app tracks time, GPS, and weather automatically.
Do I need to keep the app open?
Nope. Moda tracks in the background and shows a Live Activity on your lock screen and Dynamic Island. Just drive.
What if I forget to stop?
Open the app and tap End Session. You can edit the end time if it ran too long.
Can I log a drive I already did?
Yes — tap the + button on the Sessions screen. Enter the date, time, supervisor, and any other details. It counts the same as a live session.
Hours & Progress
How does Moda know my state's requirements?
We have all 50 states built in — total hours, night hours, highway, bad weather, and more. Select your state in Settings to see exactly what you need.
What counts as a night hour?
It depends on your state. Some use fixed hours (like 10 PM–6 AM), others use sunset-to-sunrise. Moda detects this automatically using your location and time.
I drove before installing Moda. Can I add those hours?
Yes. During onboarding you can seed your existing hours with the slider. You can also add past sessions manually anytime from the Sessions screen.
My progress seems wrong.
Check that your sessions have the right duration and time category. You can edit any session by tapping it and hitting the pencil icon.
Supervisors
Do I need a supervisor?
Most states require a licensed adult (usually 21+) in the car during permit driving. Add them in the app so each session is properly documented.
Can I have multiple supervisors?
Absolutely. Add as many as you want — parents, guardians, instructors. Pick the right one each time you start a drive.
What's the license number field for?
Some states require the supervisor's driver license number on the official log. It's optional and stays on your device — never uploaded.
Family Linking
How does family linking work?
Parents or instructors generate a 6-digit code from their app. The teen enters it to link accounts. Once linked, the parent can see driving progress and approve sessions.
Do both people need to buy Moda?
No. If the parent has purchased Moda, it extends to all linked drivers automatically.
Can I unlink later?
Yes, either person can unlink from Settings at any time.
Exporting & DMV Forms
How do I export my driving log?
Go to the Export section from your dashboard. Choose PDF for printing or CSV for spreadsheets.
Does Moda fill out my state's DMV form?
For supported states (IN, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA), Moda auto-fills the official form with your sessions. More states coming soon.
Can I share my progress?
Tap Share Progress on your dashboard to generate a shareable card with your stats.
Privacy & Data
Does Moda track my location?
Only during an active session, and your coordinates never leave your device. We sync total miles only — no one can see where you drove.
What gets backed up to the cloud?
Hours, session summaries, supervisor names, and progress stats. GPS coordinates, routes, and waypoints stay on your phone.
What if I lose my phone?
Sign in with Apple or email to enable cloud backup. Your hours and progress restore automatically on a new device.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Go to Settings > Delete Account. This permanently removes all data from our servers and your device.
Account & Purchase
Is there a subscription?
No. Moda is a one-time purchase of $4.99. No subscription, no ads, no hidden fees. Yours forever.
Can I restore my purchase?
Yes. Go to Settings and tap Restore Purchase. It uses your Apple ID — works even on a new device.
Do I need an account?
Not required, but recommended. An account enables cloud backup and family linking. You can sign in with Apple or email anytime.
